Siddharth Anand Calls Blockbuster War the ‘Most Important Point’ in His Career

Director Siddharth Anand is basking in the glow of War completing six successful years. The filmmaker, who has since delivered the behemoth Pathaan and the aerial action spectacle Fighter, called the Hrithik Roshan-Tiger Shroff starrer the biggest turning point of his professional life.

Anand, known for mastering the high-budget action genre, opened up about the landmark film, emphasizing that its true value lay not just in its box office supremacy but in the rigorous filmmaking process.

The Real Turning Point Was The Making of War

In a recent interview, Anand detailed how War served as the culmination of his journey, from romantic comedies to full-blown action. "I would say I'm very, very happy with War and when I look back at it, I feel proud," he said, adding that the creation of War was the true turning point for him as a filmmaker.

"All my films that I made till that date, I think have been, have lent to me making War the film it is," Anand explained, stressing that he treated the film as an "English film" in terms of its script—originally conceiving it without songs to make it a relentless thriller. The inclusion of the superhit track 'Ghungroo' came much later, added purely as a situational fit.

Setting The Benchmark for Action

The film’s casting was clearly a dream come true, pitting action superstars Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff against each other. Anand admitted that securing this "through the roof" cast immediately elevated the expectations, forcing the team to set a new benchmark for Indian action cinema.

"The fact that we got two action superstars in War, we had to set a benchmark," he recalled. The move paid off handsomely: War went on to shatter records, laying the foundation for the ambitious YRF Spy Universe that Anand has played a key role in expanding with Pathaan.

The director, who is also known for being candid about the reception of his films (like Fighter), is clearly most passionate about the technical and creative evolution that War forced upon him, making it a pivotal project that redefined his career trajectory in Bollywood.
